So When I picked Hallie up from school today her teacher told me she had let all the kids pick out a book to take home and keep because she had so many. And that the book was in her bag. Well as soon as I put Hallie and McKinlee in the car Hallie started throwing a fit about how she didnt get the book she wanted, she wanted the purple book not the blue one. She was so mad, and throwing a fit and telling McKinlee that she was mean because she would not trade Hallie. I tried to explain to Hallie that her book was probably a really good book just because it wasnt purple on the outside does not mean it isnt a good book and I told her she should be grateful that she even got a book, there are many boys and girls our there that dont even own one book at all. And she continued to cry and said she didnt want it, she told me everyone else got good books and I got a stupid blue one. Once again I did some explaining. Finally about half way home McKinlee agreed that Hallie could just look at her book until I dropped her off. So Hallie looked and looked and then when I got McKinlee out of the car hallie chucked her blue book (that looked like a really cute book by the way) out the door onto the road. I asked her if she wanted it or not or if I should give it to McKinlee, to which Hallie replied, " I dont want that stupid book." So I calmly let her know that I was going to let McKinlee have it then. And she did not care. So off McKinlee went with two books and Hallie had none. I told Hallie when I got back in the car that it is so sad that she doesnt have a book now because she gave it to McKinlee. And not 5 seconds later she started sobbing big alligator tears and wanted me to go and get the book back. I told her I cannot go and take the book back, you said you didnt want it becuase it wasnt purple. I told her she made the choice to let McKinlee take it so she will have to learn that you dont judge a book by its cover. I explained to her the the book was a really good book and maybe next time you should read it before giving it away and saying it is stupid.
I also learned a lesson by this whole thing, I tend to judge people by what they look like or act like, I dont mean to it just happens. So I decided I am going to try and do better at not judging anything. Cause you just never know.

You're such a good mom!! Not sure what I would have done...
Chels, you are such a great mom!! Thanks for the great lesson today, I know had I been in the same situation, I would have yelled and screamed and made myself look just as silly as my 4 year old. You are so amazing how you handle everything like you have been doing this for years and years. Way to go, and again thank you for showing me the correct way to parent my HALLE!! I think they sound so much alike!!
Isn't it great that can can teach our kids and learn a lesson at the same time. I know I learn more from my kids then they do from me.
Cute story. This is one of those times that when she gets older you look back and laugh at how silly kids react to certain situations. What a great way to compare it adult life. I should really try to do that.
Thanks for sharing.
Isn't it amazing how these crazy moments when our kids are acting out of control and absurd - we are the ones that actually learn the lesson?! I learn from my kids every single day. Usually it is my attitude showing through them, so I have finally learned that if I take it to heart it is most always to my benefit! You are a good mom!
